Getting Started

How long does it take to deploy GridGenius?

Most utilities are up and running within two to four weeks. The timeline depends on your existing data infrastructure. If you have a modern AMI system and accessible SCADA data, the core platform can be ingesting data within days. The AI models typically need two to four weeks of historical data to calibrate before delivering production-quality forecasts.

Our onboarding team handles the integration work. You do not need dedicated IT resources for the deployment — just access to your data systems and a point of contact who understands your grid topology.

What data sources does GridGenius need?

At minimum, GridGenius needs interval meter data (AMI readings) and historical load data. For full functionality, we also integrate with SCADA/EMS systems, weather data feeds, GIS/mapping systems, and your customer information system (CIS). We support standard protocols including DNP3, IEC 61850, MultiSpeak, and CIM, as well as REST APIs and flat file imports.

Do we need to replace our existing systems?

No. GridGenius is designed to work alongside your existing SCADA, OMS, CIS, and billing systems — not replace them. We integrate with your current infrastructure and add the AI analytics layer on top. Your operators continue using the tools they know, enhanced with GridGenius insights and automation.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every plan includes a 14-day free trial with full access to all features in your selected tier. No credit card is required to start. We help you connect your data sources during the trial so you can evaluate GridGenius with your actual grid data.

Technical & Integration

Does GridGenius integrate with our SCADA system?

Yes. GridGenius integrates with all major SCADA/EMS platforms including OSIsoft PI, ABB, GE, Siemens, and Schneider Electric systems. We support DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC-UA, and REST API connections. Our integration team handles the setup and testing to ensure reliable, real-time data flow.

What AMI systems are supported?

GridGenius works with all major AMI platforms including Itron, Landis+Gyr, Sensus (Xylem), Aclara, and Honeywell. We also support generic meter data via MultiSpeak, CIM, and CSV imports. If your AMI vendor is not listed, contact us — we have integrated with dozens of systems and can likely support yours.

Can GridGenius run on-premise?

Yes. The Enterprise plan includes an on-premise deployment option for utilities with strict data residency requirements. On-premise deployments run on your infrastructure with the same features as the cloud version. We provide installation support, updates, and ongoing maintenance.

How accurate is the AI load forecasting?

GridGenius typically achieves 92-96% accuracy (measured by MAPE) for day-ahead load forecasts after the initial calibration period. Accuracy improves over time as the model learns your grid's unique patterns. Short-term forecasts (1-4 hours ahead) are generally more accurate than longer-term projections. We provide real-time accuracy dashboards so you can track forecast quality continuously.

Security & Compliance

How does GridGenius protect our data?

GridGenius uses enterprise-grade encryption for all data. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 and at rest using AES-256 encryption. Our cloud infrastructure is hosted on SOC 2 Type II certified providers within the United States. We maintain comprehensive audit logs, support role-based access controls, and offer multi-factor authentication for all user accounts.

We never share, sell, or use your operational data for any purpose other than providing the GridGenius service to your utility.

Is GridGenius compliant with NERC CIP standards?

GridGenius is designed to support NERC CIP compliance for utilities subject to these requirements. Our platform implements access controls, audit logging, encryption, and network security measures aligned with CIP standards. For utilities with BES Cyber Systems, we offer deployment architectures that maintain the required security boundaries. Our compliance team can work with your NERC coordinator to ensure GridGenius fits within your compliance program.

Where is our data stored?

All cloud-hosted data is stored in the United States on SOC 2 Type II certified infrastructure. Backups are encrypted and stored in geographically separated US data centers. Enterprise customers can choose specific regions or opt for on-premise deployment to meet data residency requirements.

Can we export our data if we leave?

Yes. You own your data. At any time, you can export your complete dataset — meter readings, forecasts, grid health records, customer communications, and analytics — in standard formats (CSV, JSON, Parquet). If you cancel, you have 90 days to export before data is permanently deleted.

Operations & Support

Does GridGenius work for small rural cooperatives?

Absolutely. GridGenius was built to serve utilities of all sizes, from rural electric cooperatives with a few thousand meters to large investor-owned utilities with millions. The Starter plan is specifically designed for smaller utilities and cooperatives. We also offer special pricing for public power entities and co-ops — contact us at hello@gridgenius.ai.

How does outage detection work without smart meters?

While smart meters provide the fastest outage detection (sub-30-second), GridGenius can also work with SCADA-only environments. In this mode, outage detection relies on SCADA alarms, protective device operations, and customer call correlation. Detection times are longer (minutes instead of seconds) but still significantly faster than relying solely on customer reports.

What kind of support do you provide?

Starter plans include email support with next-business-day response. Professional plans include priority support with four-hour response during business hours. Enterprise plans include a dedicated account manager, 24/7 emergency support, and quarterly business reviews. All plans include access to our knowledge base and onboarding training.

Billing & Plans

Is there a long-term contract?

No long-term contracts required. GridGenius is month-to-month with no cancellation fees. Annual plans are available at a discount (approximately two months free), but there is no penalty for switching to monthly or canceling. We earn your business every month.

Can we upgrade or downgrade our plan?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately with prorated billing. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. If your meter count grows beyond your current plan's limit, we will notify you and help you transition smoothly — there are no surprise charges.
